This event will showcase Ocala as a great place not only to visit and have fun, but to live and work. In addition to the professional tournament, a Pro-Am event will give amateur golfers an opportunity to play with professional golfers and enjoy an evening of dinner and entertainment. The Pro-Am is scheduled for Tuesday, March 11 and will kick off the 2008 Ocala Open to be held March 12 through March 14, 2008.
This event began three years ago as the North Florida Winter Series Championship and hosted a field of 19 professional players. In 2007, the name Ocala Open was adopted, the field grew to 68 professionals and the foundation was set. A reputation in the professional golf community began to circulate with positive reviews of the staff at Candler Hills and the superior condition of the course.
Designed by renowned golf course architect Gordon Lewis of Naples, Florida, Candler Hills Golf Club features picturesque scenery and a unique layout and offers a challenge to golfers of all levels. The par-72 championship golf course opened in 2005 with a state-of-the-art practice facility and the longest par-5 in Florida at 669 yards.
