Hospice of Marion County, Inc. has served the residents of Marion
County, Florida since 1983. Once an all-volunteer agency, they are now a
not-for-profit organization of 430 professionals and 600 volunteers, whose
mission is providing exemplary compassionate comfort care for the terminally ill. Their team serves patients and their families by providing not only expert end-of-life care via six medical directors, teams of RNs,
and CNAs, but also ancillary support, such as counseling, chaplaincy,
social services, respite for caregivers and bereavement service for up to
13 months—all covered by Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance. No one is ever refused based on ability to pay.
Hospice care is available for anyone with any life-limiting disease with a prognosis of about six months. All of their services are available to patients throughout the county, wherever they call home, whether it is their private residence, assisted living facility, nursing home, hospital, or at one of four state-of-the-art hospice houses.
